at the Debate
At the June 17th debate on BronxTalk, I shared my vision of an East Bronx where healthcare is affordable and public schools are fully-funded, where our neighbors live comfortably in their homes without fear of being priced out, and where we invest in crime prevention resources like mental health services and afterschool programs for our youth. I spoke out against the proposed casino in Throggs Neck and the corporate interests who want to privatize our parkland.
My experience - developing programs with faith leaders that helped the Bronx recover from Superstorm Sandy, leading New York City's efforts to aid Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, and working alongside Congresswoman AOC to bring free tutoring to hundreds of Bronx families and their children - prepares me to fight for our communities in Albany.
We’ve invested a ton of money into crime reaction while crime prevention continues to be defunded. We need to invest in mental health resources, affordable housing, and after-school programs that actually prevent crime. Listen above to learn more about what this means for our communities.
The Bronx has been hit hard by the housing affordability crisis, and tenants are demanding stronger protections to keep them in their homes and keep our communities stable and safe. We also need to develop new affordable housing to make the Bronx accessible to all without displacing our friends & neighbors. Listen above to hear how these two prongs can address the crisis.
Let me be clear: I am 100% AGAINST the casino – and I oppose the recently-introduced Parkland Alienation Bill. Our community needs fully-funded schools, climate resiliency, and affordable healthcare & childcare — not less public parkland, more pollution, and a space where rich outsiders extract wealth from our neighborhood. Listen above to find out how we can keep our communities healthy with an alternative to this awful casino.
